Cleaning the Crap Off the DeskI find it useful to, every once in a while, make sense of the clatter that heaves up upon the lower half of my desk.
Compact Disc, DJ Krush & Toshinori Kondo: "Ki-Oki". Turntablism and trumpet. Sometimes, turntablism and electric trumpet.
A skein of cotton string. Soon I should get around to using this stuff to attempt to repair the curling leather of the handle on my briefcase. It really needs to go back into the kitchen.
Compact Disc: The Conet Project. Sound archive recordings of shortwave numbers stations broadcasts. With a booklet.
Clipboard of light-channeling green plastic, with attached notepad of white paper. Notepad contains notes, architectural sketches and fabric designs. Comes with red felt-tip pen.
Compact Disc, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet: "Savvy Show Stoppers". Noteable for the inclusion of the track, 'Having An Average Weekend', an alternate version of which was used as the theme music for the comedy program Kids In The Hall.
A University of Chicago Press catalog, most likely because I purchased a book from them recently (and another mailing list to be on, it would seem).
Compact Disc: self-titled release from Nickel Creek. I need to hear everything produced by Allison Krauss.
The Pie Book, Louis P De Gouy, Copyright 1949, Dover Publications, Inc., New York, New York. A cookbook written before butter was bad. Additionally interesting for the Technical Data section, the strict alphabet order, the recipe for a "Winter Wheat Crunchy Semi-Puff Paste Flaky Pie Crust", and the "Tokaji Wine Cream Chiffon Pie". Should also go back in the kitchen.
Compact Disc, Sasha and John Digweed: "Northern Exposure 2, East Coast Edition". A truly fine mix!
White Duct Tape. I bought this back at the recent height of the "duct tape and plastic sheeting" scramble. The sad silly truth: I actually needed some for something not terror-related, and I couldn't find any in the house. So I stood in line at the hardware and felt like a tool. I still feel like a tool.
Compact Disc, Strength In Numbers: "Telluride Sessions". Edgar Meyer, Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Mark O'Connor, Jerry Douglas. Tiny little hammers of god, plus bombastic banjo.
One wooden 12-inch ruler. Has "Westcott Ruler" imprinted with a dingbat underneath the rule proper. Also features the thin metal strip along one side, that I have always been told is for tearing paper cleanly, although I have never been able to get that to work. Works masterfully as an elevated straight edge for drawing purposes.
Numbers In The Dark, Italo Calvino. I was wondering where that went.
Compact Disc, The Gourds: "Shinebox". You haven't heard 'Gin & Juice' yet.
The cordless phone. It distresses me to no end that, now that we need to dial ten digits for a local call, the "auto dial from caller ID memory" is completely useless.
One yellow Team Losi "Da Bomb" yo-yo.
Compact Disc, Buckethead: "Bucketheadland". I have no idea.
A coaster.
(Always need a coaster!)
