Experiments With PorridgeThe usual morning routine goes something like this: in among the coffee, I put a measure of rolled oats and two measures of milk into a pot, and put the heat to it on high. Quite soon I get the barest of simmers in the milk, at which point the heat goes to low, the lid goes on, and I leave it alone for ten minutes. When those have gone, I toss in some cinnamon, maple syrup, and wheat germ, give it all a stir and then another ten minutes. This morning, the apple sauce happened to be next to the wheat germ in the refrigerator, so I threw some of that in, too.
This turned out really well.
Less syrup could go in if the apple sauce is sweet, of course. The apple sauce did a nice job of rounding out the flavor of the oats and wheat. I usually slice a banana into this stuff when it's ready, and it all complemented nicely.
I need to start making apple sauce.
